Station Twelve - Mother and Son

Jesus entrusts Mary and John to each other-Thursday 4/21/11

John 19:25-27 ESV
But standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son!" Then he said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother!" And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.

Jesus had spent the years of His life on earth building disciples.  Many times he brings up the issue of family, “If you do not hate your own [family].”  He questions, “Who are my mother and brothers?”  Clearly he lays it out for Mary and John, this is your family, and they departed into one another’s care.  When we stand at the foot of the cross in Jesus’ most vulnerable moments and hold tight in our hearts the belief of the Son of God, we enter into a family of God.  How have we become so torn apart as a family of believers over menial details that take our focus off of Jesus?  Brothers and sisters, behold your family.
