Station Thirteen - The Death of Jesus

Jesus dies on the cross-Friday 4/22/11

Luke 23:44-46 ESV

It was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour, while the sun’s light failed. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!" And having said this he breathed his last.

Oh, sorrowful day.  Set aside for today the thoughts of what is to come and kneel before the cross where your Lord has laid down His life.  Beaten and torn body emptied of blood and life. Here nailed and hung so to ensure ultimate suffering, is your Lord.  Can we come to Jesus and follow Him if we do not reflect on the death that has brought us life?  Shall we pour all our understanding in the joyful outcome and not mourn the steps that were taken to get there?  Grieve faithful Christian, grieve for today for it is only “good” when your eyes are on tomorrow.  We will rejoice every other day for our risen Lord, today let’s sit at the cross and mourn the slain Lamb of God.  How great the price, I shall never know.
